The Cycles of Saturn and Pluto ~ COVID-19 in 2020.

“Three months ago, no one knew that SARS-CoV-2 existed. Now the virus has spread to almost every country, infecting at least 446,000 people whom we know about, and many more whom we do not. It has crashed economies and broken health-care systems, filled hospitals and emptied public spaces. It has separated people from their workplaces and their friends. It has disrupted modern society on a scale that most living people have never witnessed. Soon, most everyone in the United States will know someone who has been infected. Like World War II or the 9/11 attacks, this pandemic has already imprinted itself upon the nation’s psyche.”

Ed Young, The Atlantic March 25, 2020

Young goes on to point out in the article that, ” We should have seen this coming, mentioning the recent Ted Talk Bill Gates gave warning people of the pandemic along with the hundreds of health experts who have written books and papers giving their warning.”

Astrologers saw something too. Approximately every 34 years, Saturn and Pluto line up and form one of the more challenging aspects known as the conjunction. The energies of these two planets blend together forming a powerful force.

Saturn tends to restrict and contract, set limits, boundaries, borders, separate, isolate and bring fear.

Pluto is associated with power, and amplifies whatever planetary energy it is configured to. Pluto wants to break down and destroy in order to rebuild. Pluto brings endings.

Astrologically, when these two energies come together, it’s typically a period of intense fear.

If we look back to history as a predictor of cycles, Saturn and Pluto conjoined in October of 1914 around the outbreak of WWI. The Cold War followed in 1947 and then in 1982, we felt the tension and anxiety of yet another cold war under President Reagan. During this time, the United States experienced an economic recession that resulted in the highest rate of unemployment in the US since the Great Depression. Additionally, 1982 also marked the year the AIDS virus was first identified which reached epidemic proportions. People feared being infected.

The energy of these two planets came together once again on January 12, 2020, coinciding with a new cycle of fear and isolation as expressed through COVID-19, an infectious disease causing respiratory symptoms that range from mild cold like symptoms to more severe symptoms such as pneumonia and even death.

Fear also rose between the United States and Iran as a headline from the New York Times read on January 11, 2020 ,“7 Days In January: How Trump Pushed US and Iran To The Brink of War,” referring to the United States’ assassination of Iranian Major General Qassim Suleimani in Baghdad.

Days earlier, “A pneumonia of unknown cause” detected in Wuhan, China was first reported to the World Health Organization ( WHO) Country Office in China on December 31, 2019.

A month later on January 30, 2020, The World Health Organization declares the outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.

To date, the recent Saturn/Pluto conjunction has coincided with fear of food as people attempt to stockpile and hoard supplies. Hand sanitizer and face masks are no where to be found, adding to the fear of infection.

Most of us are experiencing limits as well as nearly every non-essential service has shut down across the globe to include schools, universities, restaurants, retail, recreation and entertainment venues. We are even limited in the amount of supplies we can purchase if and when we can find them.

Life as we knew it has slowed way down–another characteristic of Saturn.

Globally, this virus has affected nearly every country as we’re urged to practice social distancing– setting a 6 foot boundary between ourselves and others. Travel is restricted. On a state and local level, many government agencies are advising, if not ordering, people to stay home and self-isolate except to obtain necessities such as food. Ironically, this concept of social distancing is increasing as Saturn just moved into the sign of Aquarius which signifies society.

While we may not be able to anticipate how the energies of Saturn and Pluto will manifest each time they meet, it’s easy to get caught up in fear and focus on the shadow side of these planets.

Yet, we also see countless examples of positive Saturn and Pluto attributes during these cycles too. As Richard Tarnas points out in, “Cosmos and Psyche,” determination, will, courage, sacrifice, transformation and rebuilding of new structures are some of the more positive examples witnessed in these periods of crisis.

Navigating Covid-19.

Asking for Divine Guidance today, March 25, 2020, I asked what is the message for the World? “Dance of The Divine Feminine” is what wanted to come through. This deck is authored by Alana Fairchild and based on the poetry of Rumi.

Says Rumi, “If a tree could move from one place to another, it would not suffer the pain of the saw or the oppressive wounds.

If the Sun and Moon stood still like the rocks, they could not offer brilliance.

How bitter the taste of water would be, if the river stopped its flow remaining still like seawater.

When the seawater rises to become a cloud, it loses its bitterness and pours the rain of sweetness.

I have given you only a few examples. You can figure out the rest. Break away from the self and enter the Kingdom of Love.”

If we read through this slowly and really think about what Rumi is telling us, we see that there is a purpose to everything- even in pain, loss and suffering. The joy we feel comes in the transformation of energy. “When the seawater rises to become a cloud, it loses its bitterness and pours the rain of sweetness.”

The message of “Dance Of The Divine Feminine,” I think, is that we are currently being shifted more toward feminine, yin energy. A balancing of energy. A shift in power or re-balancing of power.

The author’s message in this card is that the whole idea that anything is settled or permanent is false. We feel unsettled right now because it feels like the ground beneath us is being broken. And it is! It never was stable. Everything at all times is in a state of change as Rumi shows us in his message.

The best way to navigate through to the other side is acceptance. It’s when we try to stay the same and resist change that we become distressed.

A further message during this time where we feel we’ve been turned upside down is to establish right priorities. What matters most to us?

As the world has slowed down, we’ve seen countless examples of people reaching out to each other despite being physically isolated. Again, what matters most?

When we focus on what truly matters, from the heart, we’ll start to find our way. Maybe some shaking up was required to get us back on track, showing us that some of the things we are attached to actually drain us and take us away from the only thing that truly matters and remains eternal, Love.

There is a final message with this card, “There is something you are holding onto—a person, place, thing or belief that you need to let go of because it wants to grow.”Whatever the outcome, it will be much easier on us if we can flow and support the growth instead of trying to resist.

Reassurance is given that while it feels like our world is coming to an end, we are being led to a deeper state of divine being and becoming.

“What the caterpillar calls the end, the master calls the butterfly.”
